Proposed three new Konkan Railway Stations in Goa
“Attention of the House is drawn as regards to Sao Jose de Areal in Velim
constituency and Neura in St Andre constituency over the recent
announcement by central government that 3 new Railway Stations will be
set up in Goa at Mayem, Sao Jose De Areal and Neura. There are already
nearby railway stations and hence there is no need for such facilities for
passengers. Hence the villagers are speculating that these stations are being
set up to handle coal and other polluting materials and these areas may
also be supplemented with port connectivity thereby spelling doom for the
residents and farmers. Goa government is requested to discuss the matter
with Konkan Railway corporation and central government and provide
sufficient information about this decision. These proposed projects should
not be given any license/permissions/approvals unless the concerns are
addressed by authorities and all stakeholders are taken into confidence.
With reference to the above calling attention, it is to clarify that the
Railways are central subject, state has limited role as far as railway stations
requirement are concerned.
